■Contribution to a Landmark Skyscraper in Hong Kong

“The Henderson” is a 36-storey landmark office tower located in Central District, the heart of finance and business on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island.
The project was developed by Henderson Land, one of the four major property developers in Hong Kong. The rounded form of the building—designed by world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects—takes inspiration from the bud of the Bauhinia flower, a symbol of Hong Kong.
KIKUKAWA was responsible for fabricating the stainless steel cladding panels used in the elevated pedestrian footbridge at the base of the tower.

■Complex 3D-Shaped Stainless Steel Panels

Reflecting the building’s fluid form, the pedestrian footbridge incorporates complex curves and slopes. None of the double-curved cladding panels are identical—each required advanced 3D metalworking techniques. KIKUKAWA utilised 3D data modelling during the design phase and combined traditional craftsmanship with modern technology to create the complex panel shapes.
The shape of every panel was meticulously inspected at every stage—forming, assembly, and final pre-shipping checks—ensuring zero remanufactures due to dimensional deviations.

■Global Project Expertise Backed by Experience

KIKUKAWA’s commitment to quality extends beyond fabrication to include crating and shipping—crucial elements in overseas projects involving long-distance transportation. For The Henderson, we optimised crating methods to strike a balance between efficiency at our factory and ease of installation on site.
Our local presence in Hong Kong, with staff fluent in the regional language, in close coordination with a Japan-based bilingual project team, also played a key role in the successful execution of this project.

■Unrivalled Craftsmanship and Spirit of Innovation

This prestigious collaboration between a major Hong Kong developer and Zaha Hadid Architects demanded an exceptional level of 3D metal fabrication expertise—an area where few companies in the world can compete. KIKUKAWA’s proven expertise earned us a place in the project.
The scope was extensive, covering over 2,000 square metres, and the project had to be completed within a strict timeline. We overcame these challenges by exploring new fabrication approaches and applying flexible, solution-oriented thinking. The final product was highly praised by the client, and for KIKUKAWA, the project served as a meaningful opportunity to further deepen our knowledge and refine our 3D metalworking skills.
